Last Friday night we enjoyed the graduation at the Peru Baptist College. Twelve students graduated and two students were honored with the top awards for spirituality and character, the la espada (sword) for the male graduate and the medalla (the medallion) for the top lady. Chris Gardner directed the graduation which had incredible music, video testimonies and a huge crowd of pastors and their members from the churches all around Arequipa. Sandy and I had the chance to meet Rudy and Loraine Johnson who have been missionaries to Peru since 1960. Rudy preached the main message as well as the message at the graduate banquet on the Tuesday before graduation. What a treat.
David Gardner led the music at the Graduation as well as at Omega Baptist Church. Andria Gardner has worked with the orchestra group and the choir and the music was spectacular.
We attended Omega Baptist Church on Sunday and God blessed in a wonderful way. I believe that God has strategically located Omega to influence a young college culture that is located directly across the road from the church. Additionally, the view from the church is second only to the ability of the church to be seen. The lady who owns the building is allowing the church to place a large sign on top of the building. People will literally be able to see the sign for miles. I was amazed at the services and the number of people and visitors for a church that is only a few months old.
Chris and Andria are our special friends as well as co laborers in the ministry. When Vision Baptist Church started in Alpharetta, someone at the same time had to take the load in Arequipa. Through all the ups and downs they have stayed faithful to the task and the things happening at Omega prove that God is using them in a tremendous way. They have been super hosts to Sandy and I, and are tireless workers. Please pray for them. Every growing ministry is persistently short of funds. The Bible College consumes $12,500.00 per month but is vital to the evangelization of South America and other parts of the world. Omega Baptist Church is a new church and needs start up funds. The flow of American students to Arequipa to train under Chris is growing and so will be the demands on his time and resources. Please pray for Chris and Andria and David and Katie Gardner in Peru.
