Job 31:24-25 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;
Job’s friends have really been giving it to him. Now Job tells them clearly that he has used all that God has given him to bless others. Job 31:13-22. He has not mistreated his employees. He has helped the poor. He has given clothing, food, shelter, and whatever else he could to help others.
He says money has never been my goal in life. I wonder as you read these verses today if God might speak to you about how you run your business? I wonder if He might speak to you about what is important in the stewardship of the things that He has given you?
Notice that Job says clearly that gold was not his hope or his confidence. He did not even rejoice when he got rich or when his business made a lot of money. He saw it not as making him better than others but as responsible to manage it for God.
Now for an application for all of us: We seek after money and things way too much! Money is attractive. It seems to offer security but it doesn’t. Our hope is in the Lord. Our confidence comes not from what we have but from who we know.
Where is your hope? How upset are you right now that you are losing so much of your security? How angry have you gotten with God recently?
I challenge you today to decide that money and material goods will not be your hope, your confidence or even something that makes you brag on yourself!
Let God, His will, His Word, and His kingdom be what you seek! Let Him add to you as He sees fit! Matthew 6:33
