Job 5:17-18 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Hebrews 12:5-11 is the New Testament equivalent to this passage. God does discipline, correct, chastise, and even punish his children (scourge found in Hebrews)! But we are to have a good attitude even in that.
His correction is for the purpose of binding up and making whole. He that began a good work in us will perform it Philippians 1:6. We have been predestined to be conformed to the image of the very Lord Jesus Christ Romans 8:29. So He is at work in our lives.
The first reason we are happy that He corrects us is that He only does this work in the lives of His children. If you sin and He doesn’t deal with you then you should be concerned about your relationship with Him. Do not go off of some pastor’s positive thinking message that He loves you and that all is ok. It isn’t. He disciplines every child that He receives.
Secondly, you can know that He never corrects to hurt but to heal. It is not a damaging angry thing but a good and positive thing to be disciplined. It may not be pleasant for the moment but it will be when you receive the grace and growth from the moment.
His grace saved me when I didn’t deserve it. His grace will grow me when I can’t, I fail, I get off track, or whatever would hinder my grace. I can rest assured that He will finish what He started in me.
