Skilled men for the work of God

November 25, 2009 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

2Chronicles 2:7 Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

What has God skilled you to do? Again we see the work of God depending on laymen, not preachers, pastors or missionaries. Solomon is building a temple for the worship of the great God of Heaven. To do that he asks Hiram to send him skilled men.

These men are doing the work of God as surely as any missionary, pastor, evangelist or preacher. I am afraid there is a misconception that you might get from my eager call for young men and women to come forth as missionaries.

You might feel like a second class citizen. You might feel like those that go as missionaries or pastors are the ones that God is really using. I do admit that I believe that too few have understood this great call but I must tell you that also too few that are not called have realized that God does have a special will for their lives.

You are as called as I am. You are skilled or talented by God, from God, and for God. You have often tried to say well I am not called and so I can live life like I want but that is never the teaching in the Bible.

God has a plan for your life. He has talented you. The talents weren’t given to you for your consumption or pride but to honor and glorify Him.

There will be no temple without these skilled men in this story.

Now question yourself, what has God put in your heart that you like to do so much? What is it you like to do? What would make you the happiest in the world?

How can you give this talent for His honor and glory? Have you surrendered all that God gave you to do something that makes a difference? You should be just as much a man of God as the pastor or missionary. You should be using what He gave you to get His Word to the world!
