1Samuel 2:29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
Kicking at the sacrifice or not satisfied with God’s provision, taking advantage of God’s goodness and kindness were some of the failures of Eli and his family. Eli wouldn’t stop his sons from taking advantage of God’s people. The sons weren’t satisfied with what God was providing for them. Now God is calling their hand.
As I read that I wondered how many times I have complained about God’s provision or what He is doing in my life. I wondered about how many times I have felt like I deserved more than I was getting. I wondered about how many times I have taken advantage of my service to God to better my life more than was right.
Do you ever honor your family more than God? Do you ever honor yourself more than God? Do you seek to use your ministry to better yourself or as a way to serve God?
You meditate on the verse and this truth. You consider if this could be applied to your life.
I do not want to turn my nose up at what God is doing in my life. I do not want to think more highly of yself than I should. I know this doesn’t please God.
I want to love and honor Him above all else.
