Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
One of the things that most shocks me today about the way men and women think comes down to us from the days of the book of Judges. They each did that which was right in their own eyes. They had no authority, no king in Israel, so each could do whatever he or she wanted.
The majority of God’s people still live that way but we were never intended to live that way. God wants us to obey Him. He wants to be that authority. Today we do have a king. He is King Jesus. He should be treated like a king. We should want to know what He wants us to do. We should live in obedience and submission to Him.
He tells us what to do through His Word. It is His written will, His written law. He tells us what pleases Him. He tells us what displeases Him. He tells us even how we are to be thinking.
As born again Christians this law is even written in our hearts. We know what He wants us to do. The problem is not one of not knowing but of not obeying.
Not only does He have a will for us and not only has He written it His Word. He has placed His Holy Spirit to live in us and to remind us of what His Word says. He is there to guide and direct us.
Now the questions that come to mind for today are the following; do you put yourself in a position to hear, study, and read the Word of God so that you can know what He wants you to do?
Do you submit to, obey, remain sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit in your life?
Or are you doing whatever you think is right in your own eyes?
