Judges 5:15-16 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart. Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
Deborah takes God’s people out to do battle. However there is an entire tribe that has to sit around analyzing everything. Reuben has great thoughts of heart and great searchings of heart!
Almost surely they had great decisions that they were making. They had great purposes but they weren’t doing anything about it. Their brothers went to war and they sat home.
I wonder how many of us have allowed too much thinking to hinder us from doing what God wants us to do. We are trying to figure out the sovereignty of God and that causes us to sit and think but do nothing. We are trying to figure out what we can do to grow a church and reach people but all we do is think and plan and do nothing.
We pray even about the need of the world and yet do not get involved enough to do anything.
I hope and pray that when it is all said and done that I will have done much more than Reuben. I do not want to be a deep thinker who does nothing. I am not against deep thinking. I am just against deep thinking keeping us from trying something.
You say that you can’t do anything until you understand it all, so I tell you that you will never do anything. Get up and be busy doing what you know to do. Then study some more so that you can do more.
Knowledge of God, His Word and His Will is not to boast about but to get us busy obeying and serving!
