Thinking we deserve more than we get

October 26, 2009 By Austin Gardner 1 Comment

Joshua 17:14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?

I am a great people. I deserve more than you have given me. God has been good to me in the past and so I think that I deserve more right now also. It is obvious that I am a great people, “seeing!”

Joshua says that “if” you are so good and so blessed then go do something about it. You can take the mountains. You can make something of what I have given you.

Many times we think we deserve more than what we get. We have been blessed in the past so we think that we deserve more blessings. The real problem with this thought is that we want it given to us. We are not willing to go out and work for it.

We have the right to complain but not the responsibility to commit. We want lots more because what God is giving us is not enough.

How arrogant can we be. How can we think that we deserve it? I know that I have this problem. I want God to bless me like He has in the past. I want more than He is giving me.

The lesson for the day is to accept what God is giving me and to work with it. I need not ask God for more until I have used to the fullest what He has given me. I need to be honest with myself and realize that I do not deserve even what I have.
