Death

October 25, 2009 By Austin Gardner 1 Comment

Dear Vision,

I am sure that all of you are aware that one of our charter members and my dad is at Heaven’s door. Our young people sing a song that says “It is not Death to die, to leave this weary road, and join the saints who dwell on high, who’ve found their home with God. It is not death to close the eyes long dimmed by tears, and wake in joy before your throne, delivered from our fears.

I think that song says it very well. Dad has gone to sleep down here and will soon awake in the presence of Jesus. That is what we teach and preach and live!

It has made me think of how important it is for all of us to make preparations to go to Heaven. Have you come to realize that you have sinned against a Holy God and repented of your sin?

I challenge you to prepare for the inevitable. Most of us spend more time preparing for retirement and old age than eternity. We mistakenly think of taking care of our old age but when it comes time to die nothing will give us or our family comfort like knowing for sure that we are saved and sure of heaven.

It has been amazing to listen to hospice and others talking about dying being easy if you know that you have been good. If you have lived good enough to go to heaven. You know that you can not do that. You must be born again.

Are you concerned about your salvation and that of your family? Do you show enough diligence about seeking God and doing His will?

Thanks to all of you for your prayers, emails, and notes. Thanks for being such good friends.

God bless you

Austin

    Pastor Gardner:

From a secular standpoint, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your earthly father.

While I attended Vision Baptist for a short period, I distinctly remember your father. I especially recall how he smiled and teased at my twin daughters.

My God rest his soul and may others learn from the light that was shown through his character.
