Exodus 35:21 And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.
Giving at church and to the Lord can be so controversial. This has been proven on this very blog as so many have wanted to argue the point with me.
I love this verse. They gave what they wanted to give because they wanted to give it. But there is something more to the story.
Their hearts stirred them up! Something inside made them want to give. It was their heart. Apparently they were in love with the work, the God of the work, etc and they just wanted to give.
Their spirit made them willing. Their spirit touched by the Holy Spirit makes them want to give.
That brings up several questions.
Why is it that so many Christians have no desire to give? Is their heart not in the work or the Lord of the work? Does the Holy Spirit not deal with their hearts about doing the work? Do they so desire not to give that they become resistant to the work of the Holy Spirit?
What can we do? Wouldn’t it be good to go to God with what you have and who you are and say that you love Him? Wouldn’t it be good to tell Him that you want to do with what you have whatever would please Him?
Wouldn’t it be good to make God the Lord of your goods and let Him determine how much you give?
I give like I want to! I decided that it was all His anyways and that He could tell me how much to give.
I challenge you to surrender to Him and let Him direct you in the management of your finances!
