Be openly affectionate

October 2, 2009 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Genesis 20:16 … he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: ….

Abraham has lied about his wife Sarah. He is afraid that he might get hurt if he tells the truth. His wife is a beautiful woman. He wants her to say that she is his sister. That way if they want to have her and take advantage of her sexually they will not have to hurt him. How selfish can you get?

Then Abimelech the pagan king tells Sarah that Abraham was given to her to be a covering, a veil. The king would not have been flirting with her or trying to have a relationship with her if he had known that she was a married woman.

That brings up something that you should consider as a Christian couple. There is a current in this world that destroys marriages. Yet another famous person is in the spotlight because of his affairs today. I never want my marriage to be in doubt, nor do you.

So do some of the following things:

Be openly affectionate! Hold hands, speak lovingly to each other in public, put your arm around your partner, make public statements that make it very clear that you are in love.

There will be much less likelihood that someone will make an advance at a very, openly, happily married couple.

Sit together in church, do things together as a couple, talk about each other.

Do not share negative things about your partner with other people.

Do not make disparaging jokes about your partner.

Make it clear to everyone that you are very much in love and love being together.

If you can’t do this then get to work on your marriage.

Be a veil for your partner so that no one would dare think of making an advance.
