Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
Paul loved the Galatians. He had taken them the gospel. They had accepted Christ and had grown quickly.
He has now learned that they are looking from grace to works to keep their salvation. They believe that it is right to start out by God’s grace but that they will have to do something to keep God happy, to maintain their salvation.
Paul is in the anguish of childbirth again. He wants to see Christ formed in them. It wasn’t enough to see them get saved. He must see them go on to maturity.
This word travail is the word used for a woman who is struggling and hurting as she gives birth. As a pastor Paul longs to see his people grow in grace, know that it was the Lord Jesus saved them, and that they be able to enjoy their salvation.
I know that it would shock you to know how I often feel those pains of childbirth for you. I watch you struggling over the things that you should have already learned. I watch you doubting God’s love. I watch you struggling to live a get by Christian life when God meant for you to have an abundant life.
I watch you living a Christian life with what seems to be very little understanding of what you have and what God has done in and for you.
I desperately want you to grow and to see Christ formed in you.
I love each of you and thank God for the chance to be your pastor. I pray for you. I beg God to show Himself in you.
