Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
We are often guilty of thinking that material blessings, prosperity, comfort, and money mean that God is blessing us. The opposite just might be true. Here we have a church in the book of Revelation that was “blessed” beyond our wildest imagination. They were to the point that they could say they were rich. Their goods had increased. They could think of nothing more that they needed. They had it. They were blessed but:
They were really poor. It is so easy to measure success in the wrong way. America and many American preachers have misled us. Material goods are not the proof of blessing. You could have everything that people in this world hold dear and be very poor.
I worry because we seem to lose it when our material goods are threatened. We seem to be happy when we are wealthy. We seem to think God is smiling on us when we have money.
Could it be that we have set our sights on the wrong goal? Could it be that we have been sold a bill of goods? They preach the prosperity gospel that seems to fit right in this verse.
They tell us that God will bless us with financial blessings. I have traveled around the world and preached to many international Christians who have no idea of this blessing. Are they not blessed?
Could it be that you have been blinded? Could it be that all the money has left you poor?
There is nothing against having money but the moment money has you then you have problems! I watch so many good people who want to Think and Grow Rich!. I worry about what is happening to our spiritual lives.
Whatever God gives us is not for our own pleasure but to be used for His honor and glory!
