1Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
Above all things we are to have this fervent charity. That is a very deep, strongly felt, love. Christians are to love one another! This is not just something that we say but something that we practice. We are to have such strong love that it is obvious to others. Jesus said that our love would be the mark or distinguishing characteristic that would show others that we were truly His disciples. John 13:35
This love, charity, will cover a multitude of sins. If we practice this special love we will learn to love each other and not be so critical. This will cause much of the gossip and bad attitudes to cease among us.
Rather than spread the bad news we will want to use edifying words, or those that build up. Ephesians 4:29. We will not be in “tear down mode” but rather “build up mode!”
We will sincerely pray one for another and care about what is happening in the lives of our Christian family.
I hope today as you meditate on this passage that you will consider how you talk about your Christian brothers and sisters. Consider how forgiving you are. Consider what you can do to express the love you feel or should feel for those that are your family in Christ!
