1Corinthians 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
Paul brings us right back down to earth in this verse. He reminds us that whatever we have and whatever we are is something that God did in us. If God did it and we didn’t what gives us a right to be boastful about it?
Who made me different than others? What have I got that He didn’t give me? If He gave it to me what should I be bragging about it? It is not something that I did rather something that God did in me.
No man should think of other men above what the Scriptures say about them. 1Corinthians 4:6. The real issue is if we have been faithful administrators of what God has given us. The most important thing that has been placed in our hands are His wonderful truths. We know the mysteries of God. We understand truth that only the Holy Spirit gives through His Word.
Paul said that we shouldn’t be judging other brethren because none of us know the hidden things of the heart. Sooner or later God will judge and He knows all that goes on and even the intentions of our heart. 1Corinthians 4:5
Paul really didn’t care about other men judging him. He said that he didn’t even judge himself. 1Corinthians 4:3
So here come some questions for us to contemplate today:
Do we worry more about what others think of us than what God thinks? I know that I often do! I am ashamed to admit it but many times I worry more about what you think than God and I am embarrassed about that!
Do we brag about the abilities and gifts that God has given us? Do we think that we are superior to others because of our abilities?
The opposite question also comes into play. Do we think that we are less than others because we weren’t given the same talents and abilities that others have?
Do we get angry with God because we feel like He should have given us more talents and we want what others have?
Do we judge others? Do we think that others are not as good of Christians as they should be because we have our criteria? Maybe we do not know what is in the heart of the person!
Do we understand that these gifts that we have been given are not for bragging but are a responsibility? Do we realize that we will give an account to God for what we did with all that He has given us?
I am afraid that our talents and abilities do one of two things to us. They either cause us to brag or complain. Sometimes we do both. God forgive us for not realizing that you have done it all in our lives and to you goes all the glory.
