Romans 15:30-32 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
Paul, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, asks the Romans to pray for him. He asks for three things in this request. We can pray all of these for our missionaries and for our pastors.
Notice that Paul considered their praying for him to be striving together with him. If they would pray then they would be involved in his ministry. We can have a real part in the ministry of our pastor, our missionaries, and others if we will get involved in prayer for them.
Here are three prayer requests:
There were obviously some that wanted to do harm to Paul. He asked the church to pray that he would be delivered or protected from them. We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness, Satan and his demons. Ephesians 6:12. There are many that would stop our missionaries from preaching the gospel. They are to go forth boldly and will. We need to pray that God would protect them.
Then Paul was taking an offering to the saints in Jerusalem and he wanted them to understand what he was doing and his true motives. He wanted God to prepare their hearts to receive the offering. We to need to pray that God will prepare the hearts of people to receive the offering that our missionaries are taking. Pray that they will hear the gospel and respond. Pray that God will work through them.
He also ask that they pray that he would be able to return with joy. Or that when he returned that he would have accomplished God’s will for him and his ministry. That he would be able to return with joy because God had used his ministry. We can pray that for all of our missionary friends around the world.
You can pray that for your pastor that he will be able to go to bed each night with joy knowing that God has used him and is using him right now.
I hope that you will be in prayer for our missionaries and pastors. I challenge you to strive together with them in prayer.
