Acts 17:16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
Paul comes to Athens. There he sees all the idols and the people worshipping. The people have completely given themselves to their idols. Paul’s spirit is stirred. His spirit stirs him to action.
The question that comes to mind today is; What does it take to stir the church, pastors, and members? It seems that we can live in a world “wholly given to idolatry” without it moving us at all.
It breaks my heart that most of us are so consumed with our own lives that we have little time for the really important things. We are consumed with the economy, making money, getting a house, building a family, having friends, taking vacations, really everything but the spiritual side of life.
All over the world people are dying and going to hell without a preacher. When is the last time you asked the Lord of the Harvest to send forth laborers to His harvest? When is the last time you gave sacrificially so that others could hear the gospel? When is the last time you gave out a gospel tract, invited someone to church, witnessed to someone?
What will it take to stir us? What will it take for us to get our priorities right? Could it be that God is allowing a recession to take place to call us back to things of real value?
Look around your own country, your church; consider what is happening. How many people have had a clear presentation of the gospel message?
Our own country is wholly given to idolatry. It is an idolatry of things, pleasure, ambition, ego, but it consumes us! How many are considering what is important? How many are even concerned that their children learn the most important things in this life, salvation, the Word of God?
My heart breaks this morning as I think of Vision. I am concerned for our families that find other things more important than their walk with God. It bothers me that God is pushed to second or third place after our pleasures, our jobs, our desires!
I ask you; what does it take to stir your spirit? I beg God to touch us and wake us up!
