Acts 11:25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
This is a great verse to contemplate. Barnabas is so busy doing something for God that he can’t get it done alone. He thinks of someone that could help him and goes to seek him out and get him involved in the ministry. You know the story. He finds Saul. Works with Saul and before the story ends Saul becomes Paul and is probably the greatest man after Christ in the New Testament.
This causes me to ask several questions.
1. Do we have so much ministry that we are actively involved in that we have to be looking for others to help us? I am afraid that the majority of us do little so do not need to get others involved in the little bit we do. We do not have big dreams, big jobs, big goals, big ministries, and so we do not need to recruit others to the work. Is there anything you should change about your ministry after thinking about this?
2. Do you realize that you do not get into the work in the lead position? Saul will be Paul. He will write or influence up to half the New Testament but he gets started just helping another meet the needs of yet others. Do you sit on the sidelines waiting for the ideal ministry when there is lots you could do if you would? Do you not get involved in the ministry because you want a different job than the one that has been offered to you? Do you think that this verse might be calling you to just jump in and do something where it is needed?
3. Who are you training to do what you do? Have you sought out a Saul? Are you so excited about something you are doing that you are getting others involved? Are you willing to share your ministry with others? Is there something that God might have you change in this area of your ministry?
4. Are you willing to train someone so well that they might take your spot as the leader? I suppose that we are all in favor of having some helpers but just to a point! They can help but they need to remember who I am and not try to push me out of my place! Is there something God might have you change based on this verse?
I ask you to consider right now; Are you involved in the ministry? Are you so involved that you need help? Are you seeking someone out to help you? Are you willing to teach them all you know?
Let’s get busy about our Father’s business!
