Acts 4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
The early church was being threatened. These were not possible or imaginary threats but real threats. What did they pray for? They prayed that God would give them boldness. They didn’t ask for deliverance or protection. They asked God to see the threats that others were giving them and to give His servants boldness. They wanted to continue to speak His Word!
I am so impressed every time I read this verse or think about it. They just wanted boldness.
Today I doubt that any of us in the US face any real threats. No physical harm is coming our way yet we are afraid to speak His Word.
We fear that we might lose a friend or someone will think that we are a fanatic. We do not want them to think less of us! We do not want it to affect our business. The bottom line is what will happen to me if I talk too much about Jesus.
If I mention the Word of God what will they think of me? So today I ask for boldness. I want God to give us all boldness to talk to our friends about Jesus. I want Him to work in our lives so that we will be excited about telling others what He has done.
Right now we have missionary friends that live in countries where it can be dangerous to talk about Jesus. We take up offerings and send them into harm’s way. We pray for them that God will use them and protect them as they witness where it is hard.
We expect them to witness. We expect them to build a church. God forgive me for allowing anything to hinder me from talking about you and what you have done in my life. God forgive me for not being bold and grant me boldness today.
I know that I do not see their threats but rather my timidity. I know that we do not see danger but a lack of diligence on my part. I know that my comfort is more important in many wants that the truth to me.
God forgive me. Grant me boldness!
