Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
They were in the very presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. He Himself was telling them the truth. They were hearing the truth. They could have had no greater teacher. There are not greater words but there was still a problem.
He opened their understanding that they might understand. He opened their minds that they might understand. I do not know if you see the connection, the irony. They were hearing the truth but were not understanding it.
I hope that you spend time each day reading the Bible. I hope that you are faithful to all the services you can be in. I hope that you listen intently and seek to know God and to understand His Word but this verse shows us another step.
I would say that many people feel like it it the pastor’s responsibility to make them understand. He determines if they get blessed in the service or not. I would say to you that this does not appear to be true to me.
They needed their minds to be opened. They needed their hearts to be touched.
The Bible is a spiritual book and must be understood spiritually.
We need to pray and ask God to open our understanding. We need to ask him to speak to us and to teach us. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us light.
We need to be spirit filled listeners.
The next time you pick up your Bible to read be sure and ask Him in prayer to open your eyes and your understanding so that you can get something from the reading. When you come to the church services next time I challenge you to ask God to speak to you. Ask Him to show you what He has for you. Ask Him to speak to you.
They discussed the Bible as they walked along with Jesus but had not idea who they were talking to and did not understand the great truths that He was telling them. Then it happened. He opened their understanding and they could see it.
Ask Him to show you and teach you as you listen and as you read.
