Luke 17:18 Were there none found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger?
You know the story! There were 10 lepers healed but only 1 returned to give thanks and glory to God. They got what they wanted and went on their way.
Each morning as I read I try to put myself in the story and see how it applies to me. As I read this story it makes me think of the many things that I ask God to do for me. I am always asking. I mumble prayers all the time asking Him to meet my needs.
He meets my needs. He has been very good to me. He has given me richly thousands upon thousands of things and answers to prayer that I did not deserve.
The question that I ask myself today is this, Do I ask, then get then forget? You know we are always asking selfishly. God is many times graciously giving us what we ask and even more. But then the question is do we get then forget. Do we get the blessing and then kind of think that some how we deserved it.
We forget to be grateful because we fully expected to get and we think that we should have gotten. We forget that God did something for us and begin to think that we did it ourselves. It was our work, our sweat, we did the getting.
We forget that God did a work in us. We like the ungrateful 9 continue on our way not giving glory to God. I have done this many times. I am ashamed and embarrassed about this. I want to be grateful.
I fear that we have used God as a genie in a bottle for way to long. We think we can rub Aladdin’s lamp, the genie will come out, we get our three wishes and that is just how it is!
That is not correct. It is a wicked thought to even have about our God! He will continue to give because we are His born again children but let’s be grateful and quit taking advantage of His goodness.
