Mark 6:52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
Jesus had just fed thousands of people with just a small little lunch. They had taken up baskets and baskets of food that was left over. They had seen a miracle to beat all miracles.
They were then out on the sea when the storm came up and they were very afraid. Jesus came to them walking on the sea. They were shocked that He could walk on water, that the very elements of nature obeyed Him.
The reason that they had this problem was that their hearts were hardened and they were not thinking about things that they had already seen Him do!
I thought about that this morning. I have seen God do great and mighty things. He saved me. He has protected me and cared for my every need for all of these years. It has literally been a wonderful life. He has answered prayers for me and done many great and mighty things but it doesn’t take much for me to forget!
My heart gets hard! I think about my problems or whatever I am currently worried about and sometimes I feel abandoned. I feel like He doesn’t care. I feel like the other things that happened would have just happened anyway.
Do you ever fall into this trap? Do you ever think that many things that God has done were just coincidences? I am the only one that is so excited about an answer to prayer and then gets so carnal that I begin to rationalize the answer and think that it just happened.
This verse tells us what my problem is! I let my heart get hard towards God and the things of God. I do not think about all that He has done. I am often ungrateful for how good God has been to me! I want to focus on my problems and not on His power and His goodness!
Could this be your problem as well? Could it be that you see what is in front of you and forget what He has already done? Could it be that you let problems and troubles harden your heart? Could it be that we need to focus our thinking and spend time remembering His power and praise Him?
Is it possible that rehearsing what He has done in the past might give us strength to face what is in front of us now?
I am tired of having a hard heart! I am tired of thinking of problems when I could be praising! I am tired of whining when I could be winning! What about you?
