Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Happiness and blessing come from trusting in the Lord. That means we spend time in His Word finding out what He says and believing that and fully expecting Him to honor what He has said.
Our hope, or expectation, is to be in the Lord. That is where happiness is found. The verse is saying that we will always be disappointed when we trust in or expect people to do things for us. Men are prone to trust and expect help from the one that they can see and not to wait on the unseen God.
Men, circumstances, and life will disappoint you. You literally can’t trust anyone or anything, just the Lord. If you do that you will be like a tree that has a constant water supply and can stand up to anything that life throws at you.
You will always be able to produce. I find it interesting that there are some parallel verses to this that talk about the tree being planted by the water, etc.
The first that comes to mind is Psalm 1:1-3. If we get into the Word of God and delight in it and meditate there in then this same planted by the water promise is given.
Psalm 92:10-15 those that are planted in the courts of God or His presence will flourish.
I think you get the idea! Could it be that we get too caught up in this world? We watch the stock market, the economy, the job market, and are hopes go up and down with them?
I know that I watch my own abilities and what I am doing way too much. Let’s look unto Jesus. Let’s find time every day to get alone with God and have Him work in our lives.
