Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
This is the ministry statement that Jesus made when He started His ministry. Luke 4:18-19 His statement stopped just before the day of vengeance because judgment has not come yet. The next time He comes it will be in vengeance.
As I read this and meditate on it I want a ministry statement or goal like the Lord Jesus had.
First it was the Holy Spirit and His power that was on Him and that is how He did the work.
Secondly He was anointed, set aside, been consecrated to preach. I want to know that God has His hand on me and that I am His man doing His work.
Notice that He came to preach good tidings. So often we turn the gospel into a political message or harsh tidings.
He came to bind up the broken hearted. What a kind ministry. People are hurting and help is on the way.
He came to proclaim liberty. How many are locked in the chains of sin and addictions. We have the message that gives life and freedom.
He came to open the prison for all of us and allows us to take the message that He has opened the prison to the world. Are you involved in this ministry.
Then the last thing Jesus quoted from the passage for His ministry was that He was proclaiming the acceptable year of the Lord. This is still an acceptable time to be saved 2Corinthians 6:2. We have the good news. We have the power of the Holy Spirit. We have the Word of God.
Let us be a church that takes the gospel to all people and does all we can to reach everyone from here to the ends of the earth with this great message.
