Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
In the previous verse He tells the lost man to forsake his way of thinking and return to God. Then comes this great proclamation. God doesn’t think like lost men. For that matter I think it makes it abundantly clear that His thoughts and ways are much higher than anything we can understand.
How can we believe that we are sinners and can be forgiven simply by His grace and goodness. It is our nature to want to do something. We want to effect our own salvation, prove our own goodness. But His ways and His thoughts are not like ours.
We believe that we have sinned so much that He couldn’t forgive us but then He doesn’t think like we do.
We wonder if He means what He says because we know that humans play games with words but then His thoughts and His ways are not like ours.
I believe that we are as incapable of understanding God, His thoughts, His ways etc. as an ant is of understanding my last trip to China.
That means I take the Word of God. I read it. I believe it. I accept it as true even if I do not understand it.
That means that I will read the Bible and not understand it all.
It means that I will not be able to fit it all into my logical system.
It means that I approach the Word of God with awe. I believe even what I do not understand. I accept as true what I can not explain.
Sometimes it means that I just say, I don’t understand and I can’t explain it but this is what He said.
