Isaiah 1:3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
Are we dumber sometimes than animals? The ox knows who is taking care of him. The donkey understand where his master has provided for him. But the nation of Israel did not understand or think about the fact that they were made and provided for by God.
My question for us today is; do we realize that it is the Lord God of Heaven that has made us who we are? We did not pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. We did not make ourselves. He saved us when we didn’t deserve it. He gave us salvation. He gave us an abundant life. The victory we have over sin is not what we have worked up but what He has worked in.
Could it be that we get as dumb as animals and begin to think that we have provided for ourselves, fixed our own lives, brought about all of this good fortune that we enjoy? That is what God is asking here.
Your first thought is of course not. You realize that it is God and you are always grateful but do your words and actions show that. Do people see you as a self made man and do you enjoy that? Did you when you were in trouble seek God like crazy but when things settled down did you begin to let the things of God slide?
I do not know that answer. I only know what has been known to happen in my life and in the lives of many others around me. Their marriage is falling apart, they come to God and beg Him and make promises if He will but fix things. Things get better and they do not consider or understand that God has been at work.
They are having health, financial, or family problems. They come, He hears and answers, they think that they worked out their problem and there you have the story.
Are we dumber than brute beasts? Do we enjoy the benefits of God and forget them and not consider or understand what He has and is doing?
