Well today again in Proverbs there is a recurring theme that I felt like I could apply to my life and it might work for you also. That is some characteristics of the lazy man. The slothful man is a lazy, excuse making man. I do not want to be slothful in my work, in my ministry, in my family, in paying my bills or whatever. I know that you do not want that either so consider these verses with me today.
Proverbs 18:9 Â He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
Being lazy in your work or about how you do you work will make you a great waster. How much of the financial crisis that our country faces could be due to our laziness and being so wasteful of our time and resources. I want to be diligent in my work. Let’s get to work on time. Work the full time and not go home early. Let’s do an hour’s work or more for an hour’s pay. Let’s remember that we are not working for men but as unto the Lord.
Proverbs 19:15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
This laziness is contagious. The more lazy you are the more lazy you feel. You will need more sleep not because you work hard but because you are lazy. Amazingly the less we have worked over the years the more sleep we have needed or wanted. You were made to work. Work was there in the Garden of Eden. The result of our laziness and sleep is our hunger. Not really any where else to put the blame. Let’s get up and get at it every day.
Proverbs 19:24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
This laziness goes so deep that we want even put in the necessary work to feed ourselves. I guess his hand is cold. He wants to keep it warm. He does but can’t feed himself. I do not want to live this life nor do you. Today, let’s get up and get in the Word of God. Then let’s get out and find something productive to do. Let’s use the hours in this day that God has given us for His honor and glory.
My dad used to get me up before the sun came up to get ready to work. There was no need in wasting daylight he said. Good lessons for work in this life we are called to.
