Glory to God

April 18, 2009 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Psalm 115:1-3 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

The psalmist desires that God be given glory because of His mercy and His truth. He is tired of unbelievers asking where His God is. He recognizes that His God cannot be contained in an image and moved from place to place. He recognizes that His God is in Heaven and does whatever He wants to do.

Those are powerful words. I must admit that many times my prayers are selfish. I want my ministry to grow so that I can get glory and be recognized. I would never admit that publicly and of course I veil that secret desire in my desire to reach people, build a church, do something for God, reach the world with the gospel message and a thousand other things that I can say at the right moment. I have to admit. I am guilty of trying to use God for my profit, my glory, and my good.

This passage is clear. Let God be glorified. He is in Heaven not here on earth where men can see Him and do with Him as they please. Not only that but He does as He pleases because He is God.

Do I recognize Him as a God that doesn’t need me but I need Him? Do I realize that He is all powerful and can and does do whatever He likes? Do I realize that He loves me because He is good, truthful, merciful, and full of grace.

I must confess today that I often have a much lower concept of God than I should have. I must confess that I want to use God to do things that I thing would benefit me. I must confess that I often do not have the right attitude about Him.

How about you? Do you ever suffer from some of these colossal mistakes? Do you ever make God in your image to do what you want Him to do?

Today I just want to recognize Him. I want to think of Him in His glory and power. I want to humble myself before Him and ask Him to do whatever He wills in my life. Today I want to do whatever I can to promote Him as He is to everyone. Today I want to glorify God.
