Tell your children!

April 10, 2009 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Psalm 78:7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

We want our children to set their hope in God. We do not want them to forget the works of God. We want them to live a holy life that is pleasing to Him! We want to pass on to them and our grandchildren how great our God is!

To do that we need to tell them about Him and all that He has done. Psalm 78:4, we want them to hear how great He has been in our lives. You should share your story with great joy and enthusiasm.

First you best have a story. What is the grace of God doing in your life? Have you been born again? Can you tell of the story of your salvation? Can you tell of the work of God in your life?

Can you tell stories of how He has heard and answered prayer? Can you tell stories of how He has used you?

If God isn’t that real and powerful to you then you can’t expect your children to get that excited about Him! If you do not have victory over sin then they will wonder why all the fuss.

He came to save you and give you life but more than that, a victorious, abundant life! John 10:10.

I want my children to walk with God and enjoy His presence even more than I have. I want them to avoid the pitfalls and failures that I have had. I want them to be better Christians than I have been.

I want to rejoice and be glad seeing my grandchildren surrender their lives to Him and His service.

That doesn’t just happen by accident. First, we must live out what we want them to be! It has to be real to me. They are sick of religion. They want truth and a real walk with God. Second, pray for them that God will do a work in their lives. Third, tell them the story of Jesus and the story of His grace in your life.

Let the most exciting thing in this world be Him! Tell them how He has done great things. Show them how your sin, mistakes, etc. robbed you of His blessings. Show them how obedience has been the blessed route.

You have more influence on your children and their desire to serve God than any other human. What a privilege to be a parent but oh what a responsibility.

Tell your children! Live it out before your children! Pass on a godly heritage!
