Bedtime thoughts!

April 7, 2009 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Psalm 63:5-7 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

What do you think about when you go to bed, the lights are off, everything is quiet and you are alone with your thoughts? Do the fears come running in? Do you begin to think about the failures of your day? Do you wonder why you have it so bad? Do you think about how unfair life is and God is? Do you think about you?

As I read this passage this morning the thought that struck me was; what David was thinking about! He says that he remembered God while he was laying in his bed. He says that he meditated or thought about over and over God, not himself! Did you get that?

He says that God has been his help. He says that he will trust in God. He says that he will praise God. He says that he will be satisfied.

Can I be honest and tell you that I think more about me than Him. I think about how much I want to accomplish, what I need, etc. I think about how things aren’t going the way I want them to go. I do think about God but it is often how God is not doing what I am asking Him to do. Do you have this problem?

What if we were to think about God and how good He is and has been? What would happen if I filled my thoughts with how the God of the universe loves me and has done so much for me? What if I thought and meditated on how undeserving I am and how good He is? What if I thought about how he blessed me allowing me to get saved and be on my way to heaven when so many others do not have this privilege?

I wonder how we would sleep if we went to bed thinking of how good God is and how He has blessed us rather than what we are missing? What do you think about when you are all alone with your thoughts on your bed at night?

Tonight lets focus on Him!
