About all I can take!

April 6, 2009 By Austin Gardner 3 Comments

Psalm 61:1-4 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings.

Do you ever feel like you have taken about all you can take? Do you ever feel like you are going down for the last time?

This word “overwhelmed” has the idea to be covered up, wrapped up, underneath it all! The word refers to being feeble, faint, weak, etc. It has to do with being weary, worn out in spirit!

Have you ever felt that way? I have! I often do! There is a solution to this problem.

We are to pray and seek God. No matter where you are, no matter how far you feel you are away from God you are to cry out to Him.

Ask Him to lead you to the Rock that is higher than you are. That Rock is Jesus. He is there waiting to meet your need. He is your shelter. He is your protection. You can trust and rest under His wings in His protection.

These verses make me think of two hymns that I think should be a blessing to you right now in your time of prayer!

Higher Ground

My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

To the Rock that is higher than I

O sometimes the shadows are deep,
And rough seems the path to the goal,
And sorrows, sometimes how they sweep
Like tempests down over the soul.

O then to the Rock let me fly
To the Rock that is higher than I
O then to the Rock let me fly
To the Rock that is higher than I!

Just remember that this is an attack of Satan. He has not left you nor will He ever. He loves you. I challenge you to trust in Him and run to Him right now. He will hear and answer your prayers!

    I can definitely relate to today’s devotional. I told someone the other day, “In this lifetime I may not ever understand the why, but I can rest assured in the “Who” right now and forever.”

    I like how H.G. Spafford said it,

    When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    When sorrows like sea billows roll;
    Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
    It is well, it is well, with my soul.

    Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
    Let this blest assurance control,
    That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
    And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

    My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
    My sin, not in part but the whole,
    Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

    For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
    If Jordan above me shall roll,
    No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
    Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

    But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
    The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
    Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
    Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!

    And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
    The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
    The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
    Even so, it is well with my soul.

    God bless you Brother Shane. I know that you are going through a lot but I also know that God is going to and is meeting your needs. You are a strong testimony of God’s grace and work in a person’s life
