Good heart settings!

Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had set his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and ordinances.

Ezra is being used of God to build the temple in Jerusalem. God is at work in his heart. This verse would give the key to much of what God is doing and would also be a major lesson for all of us! Notice what Ezra did:

He set his heart to seek the law of Jehovah. He made up his mind and heart that he would seek to read, understand and apply the law to his life. He made a decision to get into the Word of God. That is exactly what you need to do. You need to decide today that you will place your heart and will in the position to seek God’s Word. It takes decision and discipline. I will get up. I will set a time. I will pay the price. I will seek God through His Word. Do you have a time each day that you seek God. Do you spend time reading the Word of God and allowing it to work in you?

We do not set a time to read the Bible and think that we are done. Notice that Ezra sought the Word of God but then he did what he learned and understood. If you do not put into practice what God is showing you then you are basically wasting your time. Read it, study it, learn it, but then do it. Put it into practice. What did you get from the Word of God today that you will put in practice? How is what you read and study changing your life?

Once you are reading it and studying it, then you are doing it, then you teach others to do the same. We never learn for ourselves alone. We learn to share with others. You will learn much more if you put what you learn into practice and even more if you teach others. Teaching is a great learning tool!

Evaluation time! Are you seeking God? Are you spending time in His Word? Are you doing what He shows you? Are you involved in teaching others what He is teaching you?
