More on America being less Christian

(CNN) — America is a less Christian nation than it was 20 years ago, and Christianity is not losing out to other religions, but primarily to a rejection of religion altogether, a survey published Monday found.

At Vision we do not preach religion but rather a relationship with Jesus Christ. I, too, am fed up with religion. It is simply a system of rules and regulations that work on the outward man and do nothing to the internal man.

We need Bible preaching and teaching. We need getting the Word of God into the hearts of man. We need the change the Holy Spirit and only He can make!

Survey finds percentage of of Americans identifying themselves as Christian has fallen over two decades.

Seventy-five percent of Americans call themselves Christian, according to the American Religious Identification Survey from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1990, the figure was 86 percent.

William Donohue, president of the Catholic League said he thinks a radical shift towards individualism over the last quarter-century has a lot to do it.

“The three most dreaded words are thou shalt not,” he told Lou Dobbs. “Notice they are not atheists — they are saying I don’t want to be told what to do with my life.”

Shallow Christianity has led to this decline. We can’t play at what is real and expect it to be blessed. This is not a week end belief but a lifetime commitment. It is not a preference but a conviction. It is a radical call to serve the God of Heaven.

The survey also found that “born-again” or “evangelical” Christianity is on the rise, while the percentage who belong to “mainline” congregations such as the Episcopal or Lutheran churches has fallen.

Born again, real Christianity is on the rise. The day of the denomination is dead. We are not interested in rituals but a person. We are interested in a radical life change that has a reason to be.

In the survey, one in five Americans said they have no religious identity or did not answer the question, and more than one in four said they do not expect to have a religious funeral.

If you believe the Bible do you know what you just read. They do not expect to have a religious funeral because they are already admitting to not knowing God. It should break our hearts and motivate us greatly to get the gospel out when we know how much they, themselves, acknowledge their ignorance of the person of God.

“If this poll is taken next year will the outcome be different?” he asked. “As the economy goes downward, I think people are going to be driven to religion.”

This is a great time to show your faith in God, to live your faith. It is a great time to bring others to know God. I challenge you to step up with me to do more than we have ever done to get people under the sound of the gospel message. We want people to know Him. We want to teach and preach the Bible. W must be about our Father’s business!
