Everybody is responsible!

Ezra 1:3-4 Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem. And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.

Cyrus says that God has charged him to build a temple for the God of Heaven in Jerusalem. God stirred him up. Cyrus then came out and talked to the people of God and gave them all a challenge. He said some of you will want to go to Jerusalem and build the house of God others will remain in your place but all of you are responsible. Some need to go, some need to give but all are responsible.

He said if you don’t go then you help! that is pretty clear in what is taught in this reference to building the temple. Cyrus feels confident in making this assumption because God stirred him up and he is doing God’s will.

Today we are involved in a far more important ministry. We know that it is God’s will. We have clear commands given to the church. Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8. I believe that in the same way all were responsible under Cyprus to build an earthly building we are all responsible to get the gospel message to the entire world.

All will not go but those that remain should get involved in helping every way they can. It is not a matter of I will give so others can go because I do not want to go. Rather it is God wants this done. I love Him. I want to do His will so I find where I best fit and I take it personally.

I get involved. I pray, I go and witness to those around me, I give so that those that go can get the job done.

Do you feel any responsibility to get the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost world? Do you have some misconception that missionaries are a rare bunch and you are thankful that God has never called you to go? Do you feel like that world evangelism is important to some but not to you?

You study it, you meditate on it and let me know what you think. I believe that everyone is responsible!
