2Chronicles 19:2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.
This verse or this devotional thought will not set well with many of you but it is true! Do you see what is happening? The man of God, the prophet, goes out to see the king. He asks him a rhetorical question. Should you help the ungodly and them that hate the Lord?
In this day of ecumenical love we have to be careful. Fellowship and love should take a lower position on our priority list than truth and doctrine. Many will say to you today that doctrine doesn’t matter but it does.
Jehoshaphat has been helping a wicked king. He made an alliance where he should not have. God punished the wicked king and in the process the good man got burnt too.
We want to love all of our family in Christ. There are many that are saved that have doctrinal error yet we love them and believe that they are saved. Success is not the mark of fellowship. Recognition is not the mark of fellowship.
We are not to help the ungodly. We are to win them to Christ but in this case we have a leader who does not love God and is not doing right! If you do not love truth then you do not love God.
I have had to make some pretty tough decisions in my life. I have had to leave a group of people over doctrine before. Maybe I should give you some basic things that you need to realize that are important enough to not get involved in or to help.
Salvation doctrine, if they believe that anything or anyone but Christ and His grace are involved in Salvation then we have a problem. Some would have you be baptized in the Holy Ghost, speak in tongues or some other sort of thing-that is not Biblical salvation. Sorry can’t work together.
Someone else would have you get baptized or circumcised! Same story, not right and can’t work together. Others would have you not eat certain foods and honor certain days as a part of your salvation. Again I can not help them.
Baptism is very important because it is so closely associated with salvation. Water does not wash away sin. It does not get rid of original sin. It does not get you into the covenant. It is a picture of what God has done and not a work done by man.
Some would come with no absolute authority in their life. They would not believe that the Bible is the Word of God. They would leave so much to their understanding that there could be no final decider-sorry, can’t work together either.
There are not various ways to God or various ways to be saved. There is only one and that is through Jesus Christ. The person that does not put their faith in Him can not be saved, can not go to Heaven, and is not a child of God. That truth will divide you from so many.
I want us to be as loving and kind as we can be but we must stand for what is right. That means we do not help those who teach things that are not true.
