1Chronicles 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
David is turning the kingdom over to his son, Solomon. He is giving him some very needed advice. Advice that we would be wise to learn and heed. I want to examine this advice and how it might apply to our lives.
We are to serve Him with a perfect or undivided heart. It is not that our heart is perfect in the sense that you might understand it but rather that you do not divide your heart between two gods. David sinned many times but had a perfect heart because he never loved another god. Do you have anything or anyone that you love to the point of worship? Seek God. Let Him be the center point of your life and the most important goal of your heart and life. We often seek position, money, popularity, comfort, earthly things more than we seek God. We need to decide today to make Him the first of our hearts and love.
We are to serve Him with a willing mind. Serving God should not be something that I do under duress or because I should or have to do it. I should want to serve God. I should not find spending time with Him, in His Word, in His church, etc. to be a burden. 1John 5:3 Do you serve God because you desire to please Him and you love Him or is it because you feel like you should or that you have to or you will get punished? God is looking to be loved by people who love Him.
He knows what we are thinking! He searches and understands our hearts and all of our imaginations. He knows what we are thinking. He knows what we really want and what our hearts are really set on. He doesn’t have to wait to hear what we say or do rather He knows exactly what is going on in our hearts and heads. You can fool the preacher and the people but you can not fool God.
If you seek for Him He will be found. He will hear and answer our prayers if we look Him and seek for Him. If we do not seek for Him we will not find Him. How much effort do you put into your relationship with God. Are you willing to spend time each day meditating on His Word. Will you pay the price to be faithful to His house and His worship? What are you teaching your children by your faithfulness or lack there of? What testimony do you have of seeking God?
If you seek Him He will be found but if you forsake Him then He will forsake you. Our relationship with God is far more important than most of us realize. I challenge you to remember this verse.
Now you need to know that this is not referring to your salvation. If you are saved then He will not take away your salvation but you can lose His blessing on your life and ministry. You can live the way you want until you walk into chastisement or discipline. Hebrews 12:8 I want God’s blessing on my family, my ministry, my service. I want to seek Him in all that I do.
Many Christians live without His blessings because they do not seek Him. They do not try and honor Him with their lives. I challenge you today to make this verse a part of the way you think. Go after Him. Be willing in your service of Him. Think on Him and His will.
He knows what is really going on in your heart. He knows if you love Him or are just playing a game. He knows if you are born again or not.
