Joshua 13:1  Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.ÂMuch of the Promised Land has been conquered at this point in the story. God has blessed and used Joshua. You can now find lists of the kings and the lands that Israel has taken under Joshua’s leadership but God says, you still have a lot to do! I wonder how many of us accomplish a certain amount in our lives and then rest on our past achievements rather than stretching ourselves to do more and be used of God. Churches grow, see souls saved, get the building built, etc. and then seem to say, well we can sort of relax. New churches have a pioneering spirit. People are willing to sacrifice and work like never before because they are in a new church but let a little success and blessing come their way and they settle down. They feel like they have arrived. I wonder how many Christians reach a certain age and feel like they have lived their life and done what they could. I wonder how many of them reach this age and think that they have grown to maturity or know all that they can know. Without a doubt as I get older I find it harder to learn. I often want to stay with what I know. Joshua is very old and the years have done their work on him. God says, Joshua you may be old but I still have a lot for you to do. I do not want to coast in my older years and I do not believe that you want to either. Sometimes people want to live on what they have accomplished rather than consider what God still has for us to do. The apostle Paul after having accomplished more than most men who have ever served God said, I have not arrived. I have not accomplished all that I that God has for me. He said that He was reaching, stretching, extending himself to accomplish all that God had for him. Philippians 3:12-14. Churches can be guilty of this satisfaction. Well we have been at it a long time and have worked hard. God has used us and so let’s settle for what we have. Young people can get there. They have read their Bible through, maybe led some people to Christ, and they want to feel satisfied. Though we are to be satisfied in Christ and with what He has done in our lives we should never feel like we have done all we are to do. We can feel we have done it all when He calls us home. Until then there remaineth yet much work to be done. No matter how far we have come. No matter what God has allowed us to accomplish there is still more to do. Today’s challenge for you is to grow in grace. 2Peter 3:18. Ask God what more He has for you to do. Do not relax. Do not be satisfied with what God has done in and through you. Know that the more He has done, the more He has taught you, the more you can bless those that are following after you. Keep the challenge before you. Do not quit being a pioneer. There still remains much land to be possessed. There is still a lot to do!
