Joshua 3:4 Â Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.Â
As I read this passage I thought about where many of us are living right now! We have never been here before. We are in uncharted waters. The country is in a recession. Things appear to be getting worse. We do not know what to do. We have never been down this road before.
I pray that all will go well for you. I pray that you will not go through any unexpected heartache or problems but you and I both know that is not going to happen, you are going to go through something.
So I wanted to take this devotional and show you what God said to Joshua and the children of Israel and how you might have His blessing and find His direction for your life.
They were about to cross the Jordan River. They were about to enter the promised land. They had been used to wandering in the wilderness for the last forty years. But this was something totally new.
Even in the wilderness they had followed the ark in their normal routine of life. What do you do when everything you are doing is totally new. You need to know where to go and what to do.
Joshua tells them. Watch the ark. When you see it move, then move! When it stands still, then stand still.
That is exactly what we are to do. I know that we will all have unexpected things happen in our lives with or without the recession. It is just a matter of time. What is a child of God to do?
Follow the ark is the first step. That means look to Jesus. How do you look to Him and get His direction? You do that by systematic time in the Word of God. Every morning or sometime each day set aside time to be in the Bible. Read it in a disciplined, diligent manner. Watch for truths that can be applied to your life. Ask God for wisdom. Underline things. Write things down. Find something each day that you can apply to your life.
Then ask God in prayer for wisdom and do not doubt know that He will answer your prayer and give you the wisdom you need to do what you should. James 1:5-7. Ask Him as you read. Ask Him for this wisdom as you pray.
Then trust God and just do what you see in His Word and what He guides you to do in prayer. Psalm 37:3-7. Proverbs 3:5-6.Â
Know that God will only do what is best for you. You can trust Him with your future. Romans 8:28.
