Deuteronomy 17:19 Â And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:Â
This verse comes in the middle of this passage Deuteronomy  17:15-20. God told them that He would give them a king but that He wanted to give them some instruction right now.
The king was not to use his office to get things for himself from wives to horses. He was not to get rich off the position.
Next he was to write himself a copy of the book of the law. That is he was to copy for himself God’s Word. I hope you get the importance of that. He is to make himself a copy of the law, the old fashioned, tedious way, by writing it.
He was to read in this copy of the law every day. He had an advantage as king that the majority didn’t have. He could afford to have his own personal copy.
He was to read it so that he would always fear, respect God. He was not just to read for knowledge but to do what he read.Â
This way his heart would not be lifted up with pride and he wouldn’t turn away from God’s will.
Today, when presidents take office they worry about all the political positions that they get to fill. They concern themselves with turning the White House into their house and all rightly so. There will be great pomp and circumstance today as we change the guard.
My question is, when was the last time someone was so dedicated to God that they decided to lead based on what was written in God’s Word that they read and obeyed everyday?
The greater question is this, what about you? You lead a home, a wife and children. Do you have a copy of God’s Word that you read to learn and obey on a daily basis? You are a mom and have the care of small children under your leadership. You are responsible for their care both physically and spiritually. Do you have a copy of the Word of God that you read and obey each day?
Businessman, you lead men and are responsible for the welfare of many. Do you have a copy of the Word of God? Do you spend time in it each day seeking God to know Him and to obey Him?
The Law of the Leader was a copy of the book that He made to read and obey each day. That was the instruction.Â
God has placed all of us in some degree of leadership and influence. Do we seek Him to know His will through His Book on a daily basis?
