Numbers 20:24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
The Word of the Lord comes, Aaron is about to die! Go up into the mountain. Take off his priestly robes and place them on his son. He will die there.
Why such a drastic and cold statement? Rebellion against God hinders the work of God in your life! Moses and Aaron had failed to obey God. Maybe they got to thinking of themselves as important. Maybe they felt like they were the men, the important ones or maybe their pride caused their fall.
Regardless now we are at an unbelievable passage of Scripture. It is time for Aaron to die. He is not going to get to see the promised land that he has talked about so much.
No mercy, no second chance just it is time to die! Wow, all I can think of is how serious it is to listen to God and His will for my life.
I am afraid that we take it too lightly often. We do not seriously listen to God and His Word. Some how we think that it isn’t that important but it sure was that day.
It might not have seemed like much when they were told to speak to the Rock. It may have seemed like a good idea to add some dramatic flair to the miracle, who knows! Whatever happened, it was over for Moses and Aaron.
I have been living and serving God for a long time. I know that I have made many mistakes. I know that I have taken the Word of God lightly many times. This passage screams to me that I need to reflect and mediatate on my attitude and obedience. I want to do what He wants me to do.
I want to have all that He has for me. I do not have time to live like I want to or do what seems best to me. I must make up my mind to seek His face and His will about everything.
Here is the application to you. Do you knowingly do things you know that do not please God. Do you think it is a small thing and doesn’t matter? Do you take lightly your time with God?
Do you think that things are just going to happen like they are going to happen? Do you refuse to take personal responsibility?
Rebellion reality, that is what I called this because I think this passage is a wake up call for all of us. You can’t live life your way and do things your way without there being consequences.
I want to challenge you to take very seriously this whole Christian life thing! I want to ask you to seek God and desire to plesae Him.
Let’s enjoy all that He has for us! Remember that rebellion to Him is as the sin of witchcraft!
