Exo 35:21 Â And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.Â
This is a great picture of our giving! This is when the offering was taken for the Tabernacle. There is some real good background here.
Remember when they left Egypt they had spoiled Egypt. That means that because of the plagues and the fact that God had been so hard on Egypt that the people wanted Israel out! They were giving them things from their homes. They were saying here-take this just get out!
Today all that you have God has given you also-same idea! We don’t really give what is ours because what we have we really believe God gave us! He gives us life! He gives us the ability to make money and get all that we have. IChronicles 19:12
The next truth is that they gave because they wanted to-their hearts stirred them up! They believed in the cause! They wanted to give. They weren’t giving because of pressure, manipulation, intimidation, or any other word that you can think of. Their heart said that they wanted to give.
Their spirit made them willing-something was going on in their hearts. That is the sweetest way to give. I give because I want to. I give because I am excited about the cause and what God is doing. The Holy Spirit puts a desire in us to give.
I never want you giving in our church out of guilt or fear. I want you to give because you want to! I want you to serve God because you want to.Â
In Spanish we would say it is born in our hearts. We want it. It is what I want to do. That is how I ask you to serve God. If you are His He will put desires to serve Him and love Him in your heart.
You should never give because you want to make points with God or gain merit with Him. God will love you the same whether you give or not. You are under no list of rules, no condemnation Romans 8:1.
You should never give to gain favor with man or because of what others will think of you!Â
You should never give because you want to control or manipulate the church.
Give because you love God and believe in what He is doing in your church.
God loves a cheerful giver-not one who gives because he feels like he has to or should. He wants you to give because you decided in your heart to give. 2Corinthians 9:7
