They will not believe me or listen to me–SO!

Exodus 4:1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

God is calling Moses and telling him to go back to Egypt to lead His people out of slavery and to all that God had for them.

Don’t forget that Moses had attempted to do this very thing 40 years earlier. Now as God calls him Moses is very uncertain of himself.

Might be interesting for you to consider that much of his problem was probably pride. He had messed up once. He had been embarrassed by his failure to be accepted and to be able to lead.

Now God comes to call him again. His reaction is -they won’t believe me, they will not follow me- I am going to get embarrassed again.

The power of the call, the power of the work to be done was the Lord Himself. He said go and He is going to do the work. God in no way left the idea that it might now work or that He wasn’t capable.

God said-I am going to do this! There was no doubt, no hesitation! God is going to do the work.

That brings us to some questions and applications!

How often do I due to my insecurity hinder the work that God is going to do? How often does my pride get in the way of God’s will for my life?

You have to understand that I deal with this on a daily basis. I am very prideful. I want to look good. I want to be successful. I want to be heard and respected.

If I do not think that I can be successful I would rather not even start! Do you have that problem? Are you willing to admit it?

I worry about how I look to others and what they are going to think-notice not what they are going to think of God or His word but of me! Do you have that problem at all?

My decision today is die to my selfish pride and realize that it is not about me any way. It is about Him.

God can prove Himself and His Word so I will go forth in faith not worried about what happens to me! I can decide that for today but I will have to decide tomorrow!

  1. Yes, I have a big problem with this as well. Thank you for writing on this and being so open and transparent about what God is giving you in your devotions. These devotions are a big help, and I really enjoy reading them.
