Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
The great truth of salvation is that you have no offering in your hand when you appear before God for salvation that can be of any value whatsoever. Abraham maybe even unknowingly realizes that.
He and Isaac are approaching the place to make the sacrifice. His son knows very well how to make a sacrifice. He realizes that there is no substitute lamb or bullock with them. He wonders out loud what they will sacrifice to God.
Abraham answers letting him know that he also has nothing to offer but that God will provide Himself a sacrifice. It may have been a way not to tell his son what was about to happen but it has become one of the greatest illustrations of salvation that exists.
Isaac should have died, was scheduled to die. Abraham in obedience raises the knife to kill him. God stops the sacrifice and provides a ram caught in the thicket.
You too, are scheduled to die (or were). You ascended up before God and were guilty and deserved to die but God stopped the sacrifice and provided Jesus as your substitute. Jesus willingly, gladly took your place.
That is the only way you can be saved. You must come empty handed recognizing your need of a Saviour. You must simply trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross for you.
The problem with many today and there greatest hindrance to salvation is that they think that they have something to offer God. They come willing to help God, to give to God, to add trusting God to their list of good deeds and their offering is rejected and salvation can not be theirs until they humble themselves and trust Him.
Have you come empty handed to the Father, trusting only in what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary?
