First remember that God is definitely in charge, has not abandoned you, and will work out His will regardless of the economy! We are prone to hear the news from the alarmist in the world and not the Word of God. This is not the first recession, depression, or whatever that this world has had. This will not be the last. We love God and He loves us. He will take care of us. Do not listen to things that will cause you to become so agitated. Remember that you are not to be anxious or worried but to take your petitions to God in prayer who knows how to meet your needs.
Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Second learn contentment
As much as this goes against the grain of our society and culture it is still Biblical. We are to be content with what we have! Covetousness is idolatry! Read these verses:
1Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Timothy 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1Ti 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Our goal is godliness-We are to be content with food and clothing!
They that WILL BE rich or want to be rich are those that fall into temptation and snares and these snares drown us.
That is happening all around us right now. As God’s children let’s learn to trust God and believe that He has our best interest at heart.
Third realize that God may be going to open more doors for you to serve Him in trying times than in peaceful prosperous times
Right now our country is suffering! That gives us a chance to serve others and to minister. It gives us the chance to share the gospel with others. People are more open to the gospel when times are tough. They will come and so we must be ready to tell them about Jesus and minister to them.
Remember that God wants you to learn daily dependence on Him
Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
We pray for our daily bread. God wants us looking to Him and not to our things, the stock market, a retirement program, etc. God wants you to trust Him!
Take this time as a warning and begin preparing for hard or harder times
Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
Proverbs 6:7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
Proverbs 6:8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 6:9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Proverbs 6:10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
Proverbs 6:11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
Or when times are good start saving and getting ready for the winter that is coming. God teaches us how to serve Him. Look to Him. Serve Him and let God do a work in your heart and life.
