Wisdom from the Wisest Man

The Vision Business Luncheon just finished. We had a great time! Here is the lesson we discussed today! Mark your calendar now for next month and I promise to not change it! Too much staff and too much going on to keep things straight sometimes I guess! Our next business luncheon will be at the Golden Corral on exit 9 at 11:30 am on March 12, 2008!

I. Keep right priorities!

Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

a. Keep your family relationships strong because they are more important than money or your business

b. Realize that your life is but vanity—not that big of deal

c. We over exaggerate ourselves and the importance of our business sometimes

II. Work hard at what you know to do

9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

a. Once you have the right priorities then work hard

b. You know the job or ability that God has given you and you should give it all you have but do not let it consume you to the exclusion of real priorities

i. Meaning first your relationship with God

ii. Meaning secondly your relationship with your wife

iii. Your relationship with your children

III. Much of what is happening is out of your hands

9:11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

a. If you can grasp this then you can do your part, pray and relax—trusting God

b. You know that the best you can do is the best you can do

c. You know that your major goal in life is to glorify God not make money

d. So you pay whatever price you need to pay in order to glorify God whether through death, failure, life or blessing

IV. Do not determine how you will react based on circumstances Ecclesiastes 11:4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

a. Know what your job is—to sow

b. Do your job and be careful not to let the panic affect you—storms, wind and clouds

c. Trust God to bless your business for His honor and glory in spite of what is happening in the society around you

i. This brings into question your purpose for your business

ii. This also brings into question your walk with the Lord

d. Traditional business understanding is important but you have a higher direction and compass for your life and ministry

V. Work hard and do all you know to do!

Ecclesiastes 11:6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good

a. Know what your job is and do it!

b. You do not need to follow market trends and analysis because you have found the job to do

c. You do not know what your results will be but you do know what you are to do—do that and leave the rest to the Lord

d. You are in charge of the process but not the product—do right and let God take care of the results
