Papua New Guinea 2010 December 11-25, 2010We will be traveling from the US to Australia to Papua New Guinee for one of the most adventurous mission trips I have ever been a part of. We will be visiting the ministry of Matt and Becky Allen in the village of Kotidanga. This trip will involve travel and more travel. We will start off in planes and end up hiking the trails to remote villages where the people a few years ago didn't even have a name for God. This trip is not for the faint of heart. If your not willing to get your hands dirty this isn't the trip for. Approx Cost- $4500- $5000 depending on airline ticket prices. Tentatively, we will be flying from the US to Australia to PNG (Papua New Guinea). Once we get to PNG, we will fly to Kanabea, then hike to the village of Kotidanga. I only have 6 more spots available for this trip. If you are interested please let me know as soon as possible. GOVERNMENT PAPERWORK:You will need your passport, and you will have to purchase a visitor visa when you step off the plane. PREVENTATIVE MEDICINEHepatitis A (for food), Typhoid, Tetanus, and MMR shots. Malaria pills. Make sure you have a good consultation with a physician concerning the Malaria meds. You do not want to miss one dose CLOTHINGWhile you are in Moresby and Lae, weather is blistering hot and humid--100+ each day, buy at night it drops to 70. In Kotidanga, it ranges from 55-85 year round. Men can wear shorts or jeans in the mountains. Just follow Bro. Matt Allen’s lead on what is culturally acceptable. You will need a shirt and tie for church (tie is optional sometimes). Please don’t take a suit coat--it will take up valuable space. Ladies should take skirts or culottes (below the knee), no shorts or slacks. You will need good hiking boots. Waterproof is best. Have good wool hiking socks with them. MINISTRYAs far as the ministry aspect, Bro. Matt Allen will use you to help with any thing he can. He may have you teach Sunday school through an interpreter or give your testimony. While you are there, he may take you on a hike to a village that has never seen a white man. These are all things he has done with past visitors. Having the right heart attitude, wanting to serve the Lord, and being in great physical condition will open alot of doors for you. PNG is not for the weak. From someone who has been there: I challenge anyone to find a physically tougher place to go. There will be times when you will hold hands with four-foot tall bushmen as they help you crawl across a log suspended over a very long drop-off. At other times, you will press yourself against the side of a mountain trying to keep from falling backwards down a 40ft. mudslide. There will be times when you will slip and fall, cutting your hands and arms. Many times, you will have to rely on the bushmen to help you make it past the next obstacle. But the rewards are worth it. You will have memories to last a lifetime. You will meet people you will never forget. You will cry when it’s time to say goodbye. You'll make a lasting impression on a lot of people. Your heart will be overfilled. You'll come home a lot more thankful. You will make a difference. It won't be a sightseeing trip, it will be true mission work. And who knows, maybe the Lord will call you there as a missionary! |
