Birthplace: My name is Renzo Gonzalo Huaman Aroquipa. My parents are Faustin Huaman Diaz and Joaquina Aroquipa de Huaman. I have 2 siblings; they are Luis Edwin, and Elizabeth. I was born on March 4, 1971 in the district of Arequipa, in the Province of Arequipa , in the Department of Arequipa, Peru.
How I came to know Christ: I was born into a traditional catholic family where we had to go to mass almost every day. I had to follow the traditions and customs that they imparted to us from the time we were children, surrendering ourselves to the virgins and the saints. When I became a teenager, though, I began to rebel against all authority. After having been influenced by older teenagers, I became involved in alcoholism, vandalism; I got to a level of absolute rebellion against society when I was 21 years old. I came to a point in my life where I was tired of the life I was leading; and I started to look for a remedy in the Catholic religion. So, I participated in charismatic groups and the like. But, I realized that it was all hypocrisy because I returned to my old habits. Then, one day a friend of mine invited me to her church; and I went only out of compromise. I really didn't think that the people really lived what they said they believed. Three services later, after having seen their testimony through their lives, I was motivated to change myself. So, in time, at the old age of 22 years, I heard the message of Christ and understood that I was a sinner and needed to receive Him; that day I accepted Him as my Savior.
How Christ has changed my Life: Once I was saved, my life changed in many ways including my friends, my relationship with my parents, and my studies. I found the peace that I had been searching for in my life. As time passed, I started to serve in the youth ministry, the music ministry (as director), and in visitation. Right now, my father, my brother, and I are saved. Please pray with us for the rest of my family who have yet to accept Christ as their personal Savior.
My Calling into the Ministry: Serving the Lord in my local church, and seeing the peace that He had brought into my life, I understood that there had been many people who were in the same situation I was in, searching for the peace of God in religion. I knew that Christ alone could save them. I saw a great opportunity to share with people how God had changed my life. I became interested in the Seminary through the ministry of my pastor who encouraged me to prepare for the ministry. So, in 1992, I enrolled to study in Macedonia Baptist Seminary in Arequipa , Peru . I graduated in 1998 after 4 years of study. The Seminary has been the place that God has used in my life in order to be able to polish my life, and cause me to see what God had for my life—He wanted me to be a missionary pastor. Work Realized in the Ministry: Actually, I have been serving in the “Iglesia Bautista Fe.” Before this, I served in differing ministries around Peru and South America . That time was vital in for me to be able gain experience. Right now, I find myself in preparation in order to be able to go to the Muslims. God has given me a great desire for them. Among this, I am involved in the small group ministry at my church called “Conexiones.” Specifically, I am working with the young people whose average age is about 20. The young people I work with are the older ones who are maturing in the faith. They are going to be the new leaders of the church. Also, I support my pastor in different ministries such as evangelism, visitation, and discipleship.
My Plans for the Future: I hope, by the grace of God, to leave soon as a missionary to the Muslims. I am now studying English and will soon be studying Arabic on the field. My specific plan is to study the language for the first year; and the second year, I plan to be able to start the work that I have in my head and in my heart. This work is to contact Muslim men who want to hear the Word of God; later, I want to form cell groups in people's homes. Of course, this depends on how easy the laws of the land make it for us. Also, I plan to have a work that would be able to see the Word of God sent to all sides of the Muslim world using all the means that God has given us to spread His Word. This is my prayer and my dream; I want to do all this for God's honor and glory. |
