Birthplace: My name is Helberth Rocco Masias Fuentes. I am a native of the city of Arequipa . I was born February 8, 1968. My parents are Buenaventura Masias Carreon and Luisa Fuentes Alpaca. My mother is now 81 years old, and my father passed away when I was born. I have 3 siblings; they are Juan Lutzgardo, Adrian Lucio, and Marlene.

How I came to know Christ: I grew up in the Catholic religion. Honestly, I only did what my family taught me to, that is, to follow the traditions; but I did not know why I followed them. But, one Sunday, April 6, 2003, I came to the “Iglesia Bautista Fe” in Arequipa . I was invited by the English ministry. It was that day that my wife and I accepted Christ as our personal Savior. From that moment, my life has changed completely. Since that day, I have never drunk another cup of alcohol; love has returned to my home; and God put an American family in our family to disciple us and teach us everything about God. They were Jeff Bush and his wife Mindy.

How Christ has changed my life: At that time, I was working as a taxi driver; and I took Jeff back and forth to the Seminary. In those times (sometimes as much as 2 or 3 hours), he would disciple me. After a few months, Jeff went to Argentina ; and I met Jason Holt. He continued to teach me, and God touched my heart greatly when I saw the people, my friends and family who did not know the truth of the Bible.

Call to the ministry: I had the opportunity to travel to Argentina , and God allowed me to see the need of the people, especially the young people. Many of the young people are lost in drugs, alcohol, etc. This touched my heart even more; and, at that time I decided to give up all and prepare myself in the Seminary to preach the Word of God. I left my job, renounced all the good things in my life, my family (mother and siblings) even turned their backs on me for making this decision. But, God has been good to me; the brethren from the church gave me a job in order to provide for myself and my family. The Seminary is a place where I am learning much about God. There are many great men of God that give their lives to prepare us; they give their time, and do a great service for the Lord. Also, there are many good students who desire to learn and serve God. They also put all their faith in God who loves us and understands. They trust God who provides all our needs. They live daily by faith.

Plans for the future: My purpose is to take the gospel to the world. I am preparing myself to be a missionary. I am sure and have clear conviction that I have found a reason to live.
