Birthplace: I was born in the city of Layo , department of Cusco, in the southern part of Peru . It's a small town surrounded by a lake called Langui. Most of the people are involved in agriculture, and animal breeding. They speak quechua and Spanish. When it comes to religion they believe in pagan rituals such as “pay to the earth”. My mother is Silveria Conde Bustamante, and my father is Braulio Portugal . I have 6 siblings. My parents were the first believers, 7 years ago, later one of my sisters, and finally me and my brothers, who are married.
How I came to know Christ: I was 17 years old when my sister Benilda invited me to the church. At first I did not like it. After 3 months I went to an Evangelism campaign, where I understood Christ's purpose of coming to earth, making me realize my condition. I decided to receive Christ that night, I raised my hand and Brother Armando Lobatón led me to the Lord. How Christ has changed my Life: I went to a Jehovah's witnessed meeting, and when I started to study the Bible, I realized that they were wrong. My rebellious attitude was changing, and I started to obey my parents, I stopped listening to worldly music, and understand God's love, and there was a reason for mi change. I wanted to serve Him better through my testimony. I worked at a place that made saint's statues, but when I realized it was against God and his Word, I quit that job.
My Calling into the Ministry: I had a lot of goals that were not in God's plan for me, but the Lord touched my heart everyday more to serve him full time. I told my pastor and he said he was going to pray for God's will, and gradually doors opened, though part of family opposed, specially my older brothers. I decided to obey God's call instead of my relatives. I'm praying for a place to go, and for a wife; now I'm trying to open a cell in a district called Camineros, which in time may grow into a church. Another one of my goals is to help families and youth. I would teach them about the Bible. Right now I'm helping in my church as the Youth and Teens pastor, and in the Sunday School. I wish to prepare leaders to help my pastor and go to the missionary field when God shows me. My purpose in the Seminary is to learn the Bible, and be a blessing to other people so I can accomplish my calling. One of the reasons I'm studying here is to get ready and get the knowledge, also the attitude for service and to do an effective ministry.
My Plans for the Future: I am hoping to open a church next year in the North part of the Arequipa city; we already have a cell in the house of a family, and have an attendance of 10 people by now. We hope this will grow soon. Later I would like to be a missionary, but now I want to prove myself opening this work. I'm praying and have a burden in my heath for Bolivia and Ecuador , but I still do not know where the Lord wants me. |
