Joshua 4:24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.

It is amazing the number of times God makes it clear that He wants all the people of the earth to know about Him and His power. It comes to the surface of the Scriptures often.

The question that I have for myself today is, do I want to make His name known everywhere? I am more interested in making me look good by His answers to my prayers or am I trying to prove to the world that He is God, that He is mighty, that all should fear Him?

I hope you will consider your life and what you are doing to further the cause of His name!

God magnifies Joshua so that the people will know that he is God’s man and that God will guide and direct them through him. God wanted the people to know that He was with Joshua just like He had been with Moses.

Amazingly Joshua didn’t have to nor try to magnify himself. God is in the promotion business, not us!

Moses calls on God’s people to make a decision. They are to set their hearts much like we are to set our affections in Colossians 3. Set your heart to the Word of God. Decide that you will seek it, study it, obey it, and teach your children.

What attitude do we have towards the Word of God? Do we take to heart His Word? Do we apply it to ourselves? Do we make a point of learning it and allowing it to affect the way we think and act?

Make sure God’s Word has a prominent part in your life every day. Make sure you allow the Word of God to change the way you think!

The source of Joshua’s strength and courage was that God would be with him. He could live without fear of his enemies or even the obstacles in his way because God was with him.

Isn’t that true for all of us that are born again. God is with us. He goes with us. We can know that what He has given to do is possible. We will succeed because God is with us.

Our God will never leave us.

God has not placed His will some where so far off that we can’t get to it. It is not high up in the heavens out of our reach. It is not hidden in the earth. It is not written in code.

His Word is close to us. We know it and all that is true because He wants us to live it.

His Word is not about information but transformation. It is not about history but life today.

Let’s yield to Him and His Word.

I am always impressed when I read how God instructed His people to take care of the poor. The Old Testament if full of proofs that God inspired the book. One of the things that definitely touches my heart is how they were to leave things from their harvest for the less fortunate.

God would bless them because they cared for the needy. Jews have always gotten a bad rap. We talk about them being tight or stingy but if they are at all Old Testament Jews they are completely the opposite.

I have never known a society so set up to be benevolent and kind as that found in the books of the Law. I think that we could all learn to be more giving and caring!

Deuteronomy 20:8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.

Amazingly God told His men to tell the brethren to not go to war if they were fearful, discourage, afraid, etc. If they go they will cause the people to be discouraged also. Fear is contagious, so are boldness and faith.

Who you associate yourself with will have a great deal to do with your attitude. If you are around critical people you will be critical and judgmental. If you are around discouraged, worried, scared people you will be just like them. If you are around angry people you will be an angry man.

Why not fellowship with people that are encouraged and excited. Why not be around people that believe God can do great things.

Missionaries on deputation seem to find their own kind, those that can’t enjoy the company of those that can’t and then try to get others in their group.

Church planters that make excuses like to find others that make excuses. That always makes us feel good.

Givers like other givers. Tightwads enjoy other tightwads.

Complainers enjoy complainers.

Who do you enjoy? Who do you choose to run around with?

We could stop a lot of gossip if we would listen to this instruction. One witness is never enough. He said, she said will never work.

Why would God allow their to be false prophets and false teachers? The reason is to check you out and see if you love Him with all your heart. There will be people who will teach to draw you away from Him.

What are you to do? You are to check the Word of God to make sure what is right. You are to do and believe and practice what He wants. You are not to listen to the new guy with the new dream, vision, or prophecy unless it comes from God.

God warned His people to be careful about studying what the pagans had done. He warned them not to get into false worship study and then to think about bringing it into His worship.

It is a dangerous thing not be careful as you read and listen to check it out by the Bible. Be careful not to like someone or something so much that you forget to think.
